What?s it like to use Google Glass? One Louisville resident knows

Ron Bath | Business First

Matt Coddington is one of the few people in Louisville who are using Google Glass.

Matthew Coddington has seen the curious looks and hears the whispers when people are talking about him.

Whether he?s walking down Louisville?s Main Street or in line at the grocery store, he knows when an onlooker realizes he?s wearing Google Glass.

?They get that glimpse, and then I hear them whisper ?that?s Glass. Oh my gosh, I think that was Google Glass.?

It also helps that Coddington chose the bright orange version of the cutting-edge technology product, making the device more noticeable.

?I chose it because it?s loud,? he said.

Coddington, who is the mobile applications lead at Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), is an early adopter of all things technology. So when he had the opportunity to purchase Google Glass for $1,500 as part of an early adopter program, he jumped at the chance.

Last month, Coddington traveled to Google?s (NASDAQ: GOOG) headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., to be fitted for the device. He also received a tour of the tech giant?s headquarters.

Coddington estimated that he?s about one of 20 people in Louisville to have Google Glass, which still is in a pre-release phase of development.

?I am just absolutely blown away by it,? Coddington told Business First.

Coddington wears the device all the time, and said there?s been several software updates already. He also participates in user forums where he can make suggestions for improvements.

?Little by little, they just keep adding these functions,? Coddington said.

It?s not as if Google Glass is some Star Trek fan-boy device that won?t sell on the mass market.
